Training Journal: Saturday 17th January 2009
Saturday would normally be a rest day for me, but my schedule is out of sync due to missing my weights session on Wednesday.
Legs
Warmup - 500 metres rowing, just to get the blood flowing, couldn’t use any of the treadmills as they were all being used. Did one light set, 100kg leg press for 15 reps, a few stretches and then into my workout sets.
- Leg press, 140kg x 14 reps to failure
- Leg press, 150kg x 12 reps to failure
- Leg press, 160kg x 10 reps to failure
- Leg press, 150kg x 11 reps to failure
- Leg press, 140kg x 10 reps to failure
That was it for leg press. Looking back at last week’s leg workout, I’ve lifted more weight, but done fewer reps. My legs didn’t feel any stronger or weaker, but I did notice that I had been using my hands on my knees last week, and when I did the presses without putting my hands on my knees, it was harder to do, so by that theory, this should have been a more useful workout.
To finish off legs, I did hamstring curls and quad extensions:
- Hamstring curls, 50kg x 15 reps
- Hamstring curls, 50kg x 13 reps
- Hamstring curls, 50kg x 11 reps
- Quad extensions, 50kg x 14 reps
- Quad extensions, 50kg x 11 reps
- Quad extensions, 50kg x 11 reps
That was it for my leg workout, considered going for a swim afterwards but the pool was full of screaming kids - too hectic for me on a Saturday morning!
