Training Journal: Sunday 25th January 2009

I don’t usually do anything on a Sunday, but I’ve decided that I want to re-focus my training on fitness a bit more, as I had become a bit obsessed with doing weights, at the expense of my fitness.

As such I’m going to be doing more fitness work, still do the weights, but trim down the calories a bit in an effort to shed some fat. I figure that if I can lose 10 pounds of fat I’ll look a bit better for the summer, then next autumn and winter I can concentrate on muscle building again.

Today I went for a four mile run, took just over 40 minutes and I felt rough for the last mile, mainly just felt a bit tired. I put this down to only having had 6 hours sleep.

I have been talking to a friend who recommends that I should concentrate on HIIT exercises for cardio. HIIT apparently stands for high intensity interval training, with the suggestion being that I do higher intensity interval training as it will burn more fat and waste less muscle than longer periods of cv work without intervals. I will be trying this next week with a 15 minute high intensity interval training session.
