Sprint Interval Training Session

After the success of my first sprint hill interval training session on Tuesday evening, I decided to go for another session today. My aim was to do about twenty minutes again, similar to Tuesday, but this time I opted to do the session on the flat instead of up a hill!

Where I live, down on the Somerset levels is fairly flat, and there is a long farmers track which is pretty much one mile in lenght. I figured this would be an ideal place to do an interval session along, two miles (there and back) of short 10-15 second sprints intersperced with a jog to enable me to get my breath back and allow my heart rate to recover.

The first mile, I was fine, I did 10 second sprints followed by 60 second jogs, though my seconds weren’t accurately counted and could well have lasted longer! I ended up doing 5 sprints along the first mile before turning around at the end to come back.

On the way back, I managed a couple of sprints and jogs, but after the end of the third sprint, I couldn’t jog anymore, I just needed to walk and get my breath back. I managed a couple more sprints followed by walks, but made the sprints fifteen seconds rather than ten.

I thouroughly enjoyed my session, made all the more pleasurable by the fact that it was raining, but not that cold rain that we have over winter, a nice spring rain that gets you wet but leaves you feeling like summer is on the way!
