Lift Weights To Lose Weight

I know it sounds completely bonkers, especially when the conventional wisdom dictates that one should do cardiovascular exercise to lose weight, but it does actually make sense.

If you were to follow an all over body workout three times a week, you would see strength and size gains as well as fat loss. By exercising with weights, and using the weights as resistance, you can achieve a high intensity when exercising which will stimulate hormones into your body which will start turning a flabby body into a chiselled, rock hard body within just a couple of months or so.

Clearly this depends on the diet being right, and for this I would recommend a high protein breakfast and a low carb diet throughout the rest of the day. If you want to build muscle, it would be useful to supplement with some whey protein powder, not forgetting to eat some fats throughout the day, just make sure they are good fats and not bad (saturated) fats.

If this doesn’t sound like it’s enough exercise to be losing weight on, then you can always add in some high intensity interval training twice a week to really stoke the metabolism, but remember, you can’t keep up this high level of exercise forever, as you will burn out, so it’s always good to plan a week off every 6-8 weeks. This is called periodisation, whereby you train in cycles or periods, taking a week or two off between each period to aid recovery and as much as anything else, stave off the monotony that comes from training regularly.
