Nutrition
When you do any excercise, either body building or fitness training, your body needs vital nutrients to recover (mend itself). You can usually get all the nutrients you need from eating a balanced diet of fruit, vegetables, meat and either potatoes, pasta or rice.
There are some occasions though when it is not convenient to eat a meal or the food you are eating is not providing enough of the right nutrients. A common problem is fussy eaters who won’t eat fruit or vegetables, and therefore miss out on the vital vitamins and anti-oxidants the body needs to function correctly and more importantly, combat the ageing effects that free-radicals have on the body.
Nutrional supplements can be split into four basic categories:
- Weight Loss Supplements - are used to help you to lose weight
- Sports / Fitness Supplements - are used by athletes to help improve their performance
- Body Building Supplements - are used by weightlifters and body builders to help increase their strength and improve muscle recovery times
- Dietary Supplements - are used to help provide additional nutrients for people who have bad diets (those fussy eaters again)
A crucial aspect of any nutritional program is knowing how much carbohydrates, protein and fats the foods we eat contain, as well as the all important calorie count. I have prepared a guide to what typical foods contain, for more information, please click here for a nutritional food guide.
