Shoulder exercises
The shoulder muscles are also known as the deltoids. The exterior deltoids are made up of three different muscles that each perform different jobs.
The front part of the shoulder is known as the anterior deltoid and is responsible for lifting your arm up straight out in front of you, or moving your arm forwards when running.
The middle or side muscle in the shoulders is called the lateral deltoid and is responsible for lifting your arm out to your side.
The rear part of the shoulder is called the posterior deltoid and is responsible for moving your arm out behind you, would be used to bring your arm back when running.
Internally, there are four more muscles that are used to stabilise the shoulder, these are known as the rotator cuff. Most shoulder injuries occur when people go too heavy too soon and injure the rotator cuff muscles, as these are much smaller than the deltoids, and therefore easier injure.
